Here's another digital shoe painting for the 'Soleful' book. This piece represents the grandfather of someone I know. He died of esophageal cancer. Normally I prefer the people participating in this book project to provide the actual shoes of the family member as reference but in this case they didn't have them since he passed more than 50 years ago. So I pulled reference for the shoes. He was a big athlete and serious football player back in the early 1900's so I wanted to capture the feel of the time with the dated football equipment. I went with purple highlights on the leather to make it a bit more surreal.

THE BOOK
The 'Soleful' book is a collection of still life paintings of shoes that represent the walk in life of indivuduals that died from cancer. The book is a fund raising project for cancer organizations and 100% of profits are donated to find a cure. The book is likely to be released in December 2010 or January 2011.

I like this one a lot too. I love that you can tell that it is someone older just by the shoes and helmet. It definatly goes with what you said about the grandfather.
